Provo is where a huge share of my wedding work happens: the Provo City Center Temple downtown, the canyon just up the road, and Utah County venues and backyards in between. I know this area’s wedding logistics well: where the light hits the temple steps in the afternoon, how long the walk from the temple doors to the parking lot really takes, and when Provo Canyon bridal spots get too crowded with hikers to shoot comfortably.

Whatever your day looks like, a temple sealing followed by a family dinner, a full ceremony and reception, or a courthouse wedding with a Provo Canyon adventure after, I document the moments as they unfold instead of manufacturing them.

Planning Your Provo Wedding

Provo doesn’t come with a national-park permit process to plan around: your logistics come down to your marriage license and your venue or temple's own timing.

If you're sealed at the Provo City Center Temple: photography isn't permitted inside the temple for the sealing itself. That's true at every LDS temple. I'll be right outside documenting your family and guests arriving, then your exit through the temple doors (the emotional high point of the whole day), followed by 20–30 minutes of portraits on the temple grounds before you head to your reception. Couples typically exit somewhere around 45 minutes after the sealing begins, so I plan the rest of your timeline around that window. If you're having a civil ceremony instead: the Utah County Clerk's office in Provo issues marriage licenses with no waiting period, so you can apply and marry within the same week if your timeline is tight.

Venue access: whether your reception is at a Provo hotel ballroom, a Utah County venue, or a family backyard, confirm photography and vendor access with your venue directly. I'll build our shot list and timeline around whatever rules they have in place.

Frequently Asked Questions About Provo Weddings

Do you photograph weddings at the Provo City Center Temple?

Yes, the Provo City Center Temple is one of my most-photographed locations, and it’s got a story worth knowing if you haven’t heard it: the building started life as the 1898 Provo Tabernacle, and after a fire gutted the interior in December 2010, the Church rebuilt it inside that same historic brick shell, dedicating it as a temple in March 2016. That history is part of why the exterior looks so different from Utah’s newer temples: it’s a preserved 19th-century tabernacle with a new purpose.

Can my photographer come inside the Provo City Center Temple?

No, photography isn’t permitted inside any LDS temple, including Provo City Center, during the sealing. The same rule applies to guests: only people with a current temple recommend can go inside to witness the ceremony. If your guest list includes people without one, they’ll wait outside with everyone else, and I make sure they’re part of the crowd shot when you come through those doors.

How much does a Provo wedding photographer cost?

Provo wedding packages start at $1,850 for 6 hours of coverage and go up to $2,400 for a full 12-hour wedding-weekend package, all including complimentary bridal photos before your wedding day. Full details are on the wedding packages page.

Do we need a marriage license if we're getting sealed at the temple?

Yes. Even for a temple sealing, you’ll need a valid Utah marriage license beforehand, which the officiant signs as part of the ceremony. Utah County’s online application requires a photo ID and a smartphone to scan it for each of you, plus a card for the fee: most couples pay around $71.75 (a base $50 fee plus a $20 state charge that’s waived if you’ve done premarital counseling). Once issued, the license is valid for 30 days, so you’ve got some room to apply ahead of your sealing date.

Do you take bridal photos before the wedding day in Provo?

Yes, and I recommend it. Bridal photos happen a few weeks before your wedding, often at the temple grounds, Provo Canyon, or another meaningful spot, so you get a trial run of hair, makeup, and dress, and you walk into your wedding day already comfortable in front of a camera. Every package includes complimentary bridal photos.

How soon will we get our Provo wedding photos back?

You’ll get a sneak peek within a week of your wedding, the full gallery on your one-month anniversary, and a USB drive with everything by your two-month anniversary.
