It sits on top of the general Utah State Parks Special Use Permit structure that covers most state parks: typically a $10 application fee plus a Special Use Permit starting around $50, with at least 30 days' notice expected. Snow Canyon's own wedding paperwork can add to that baseline, and fee schedules do change, so I confirm the current combined total directly with the park before your date rather than quote you a number I can't verify.

The gallery above now includes photos from two documented St. George elopements: Lia and Danny's riverside ceremony, and Kim and Cody's red rock session out toward the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. Both sat outside Snow Canyon State Park's boundary, which is a useful example of what I mentioned above: neither day needed the state park's wedding permit, just a marriage license and an officiant. Utah marriage licenses are issued statewide by any county clerk, so you can pick one up right in St. George at the Washington County Clerk's office, or in Salt Lake City on your way down. Both of you need to show up together with valid photo ID, and Utah also requires your officiant plus at least two witnesses over 18 to be physically present at the ceremony itself. There's no waiting period, and the license is valid for 32 days once issued.

Not at all. The Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, BLM land just outside St. George, is a good example of red rock scenery you can use without any state park permit process at all. Plenty of other St. George-area desert outside Snow Canyon's boundary works the same way, which gives us flexibility on both location and timing if the state park's permit process doesn't fit your date.

St. George's lower elevation and milder winters make it one of the few spots in Utah where a red-rock elopement is realistic well outside the busy spring-through-fall window. One season worth planning around either way: mid-July through early September brings Southern Utah's monsoon pattern, with sudden afternoon thunderstorms that can flood a wash or riverside spot in minutes, not a reason to rule out a summer date, just a reason to keep an eye on the forecast and have a backup location in mind.
